CROWNSVILLE CENTER - It's Time To Make A Place For Everybody

Proposed Services and Uses

Existing and proposed users will provide dynamic and effective resources for a broad spectrum of disadvantaged citizens and will be coupled with broad community uses and family activities. This plan proposes that the Community Services Center at Crownsville, Inc. provide control, oversight and responsibility for the future growth and uses of the property through the current and future similarly motivated agencies and faith-based organizations.

There are several service providers already successfully operating on the campus including Second Genesis, Hope House, Food Bank, Adventist Behavioral Health, Focus Point School, Chesapeake PC and Habitat for Humanity. The campus is situated on over 525 acres of land with 66 buildings.  This plan proposes a dynamic mix of many services will be spread throughout the campus.  This is will allow for many organizations and providers to use the property effectively and to allow for a one stop location for many of the needy and hurting citizens of Anne Arundel County. Such services as clothing, essentials, assistance with dependencies, assistance with job searches, housing needs and related matters will be offered. State and county agencies for social services and related oversight will be offered. Private providers will be encouraged to join efforts to address and help with needs. A mental health clinic, addictions hospital, juvenile services, family assistance, humanitarian projects, temporary residential aid, and similar forms of assistance for disadvantaged citizens will be offered.

Second Genesis Has Been Successfully Operating Several Years

A foundational concept of the assistance to our clients is to allow therapy and growth to take place with professional help and with other types of assistance such as work therapy, sports therapy and socialization. Additionally and at the same time this work is being done, the plan suggests that the entire property be a campus for clients and visitor alike.  Accordingly, a sports complex is anticipated with a Ripken Designed Stadium for local league use and enjoyment of the community.  In addition to baseball the facility would be perfect for other forms of family entertainment such as car shows, etc. The proposed stadium would be located adjacent to the intersection of 97 and Hawkins Road with vehicle access via an on and off ramp directly onto 97. This new access would relieve the community of traffic for the campus and for the nearby County Fairgrounds.
